Iris Feller

Carnival

Everybody is laughing and having fun

Even the most furious people suddenly feel young

They bawl, sing, jump around and drink

They smile but what do they really think?

A visitor only sees the splendour of a big decorated street

He doesn’t notice the hidden drunk men who can’t stand on their feet

He watches the great carnival procession passing by

But does he see the painted faces who cry?
