Wendy C. Barton

Burning Flesh

The one I dream of
burns before me
he coughs hard and huffs
melts before me

to help, I reach
I weep, it's too late
some emotions breach
regret, rage and hate

flashes resurface
haunting my dreams
and for an instance
I wake and scream

I would say it hurts
I'm a monster, I'm sure
I enjoyed the blood in spurts
as the stench of burning flesh, stirs
