Thistles And Heather In The Evening Wind

My tired arms I reach out for you Scotland as far as I can
As rowing on Loch Lomond in the glistening morning sun
I looked up to the thistles in the cumulus clouds now and then
The Scottish flower I saw in Caledonia everywhere blissfully

My badly torn up half caste soul silently calls your names
By the rainbow path I sat down at midday having a break
When I heard mystical sounds of my deceased ancestors
To drums and pipes on that fairy hill I listened fascinated

My two lands - I enjoy holding out these warm hands to you
Where the proud eagles circled in the highlands on afternoons
Defiant clan castles waved to me bizarrely from a distance
There on the hazy meadows peaceful sheep grazed quietly

I long for thistles and heather in fresh and cool evening wind
By the enchanting green slope I dreamt for hours on my own
Dreamt till the wind whispered: “The highland evening begins”
Where the treetops quoted the Celts there I want to be right now

Let me always build your solid bridge in the dark night, please
Germany and Alba - northern lights blinker at me encouragingly
In the middle of the bridge I give you my heart quite gently
For I lie down having a rest under the SHARED stars in the sky!

I wrote the German version as a rhyme but I could not keep this style without changing the meaning too much, so my English version is not meant to be a rhyme. Authors comment
